We Can Be welcomes 338 young women to the City

We Can Be 2025 saw a record 22 businesses, 20 schools and 338 young women come together to empower young women to imagine a career in the City if they want it.

The young women spent the morning visiting the offices of some of the biggest companies in the Square Mile - from tech to law and finance to insurance.

These included The Lord Mayor’s Appeal corporate partner Roc Technologies, where students from Kingsbury High School learned how to build their personal brands and took part in self-reflection workshops.

Chelsea Chamberlin, Chief Technology Officer at Roc Technologies said;

“We loved being part of We Can Be this year. The girls who attended our session were really engaged and inspiring.”

At Schroders, pupils from Harris Girls Academy heard from industry experts, discovered early career opportunities and toured the office.

A teacher from Harris Girls Academy said;

“I think we can help young people by continuing to show them that these opportunities exist. By educating them on the pathways they can take, we are showing them that these careers are not beyond their reach.”

The day continued at Guildhall, where the schools came together for an interactive afternoon including an investment game, speeches, panel and table discussions

The afternoon sessions were led by inspiring women and returning We Can Be hosts:

  • Dr. Joanna Abeyie MBE CC, CEO and Founder of People, Culture and EDIA consultancy Blue Moon & Partners, Common Councillor - City of London, Author, Trustee and NED
  • Zoe Garshong, Founder & CEO of Ms Independent Global

After the event, Zoe said;

“I want them all to know that no matter your background or your gender, you can be successful. I saw that a lot of the young women felt inspired today, so I’m really hoping it helps them go on to fulfil incredible careers.”
