We host a Chinese New Year concert at Mansion House

The Lord Mayor's Appeal co-hosted a spectacular Chinese New Year Concert with CCCUK this February, in celebration of the Year of the Snake. Taking place at Mansion House and led by former Lord Mayor Alderman Sir Charles Bowman, the event was a continuation of a wider relationship that began with a UK-China Charity Initiative in 2018.

Aiming to deepen the cultural and business ties between the City and China and raise funds for charity, around 180 guests attended the concert, joined by Minister Wang Qi, representing the Chinese Ambassador HE Zheng Zeguang, Alderman Sir Charles Bowman and Master of Ceremonies John McLean OBE.

Performances included talented pupils from the renowned Yehudi Menuhin Schools in both the UK (Cobham) and China (Qingdao), acclaimed violinists Tasmin Little CBE and Lu Siqing and a selection of collaborative classical pieces beautifully performed by future stars of the classical world, from Brahms’ enlivening Hungarian Dances to Mendelssohn’s magnificent Octet.

Between acts, guests enjoued drinks and canapés and the chance to win a selection of prizes in the auction with proceeds going to The Lord Mayor's Appeal and CCCUK's cultural and language immersive programme for young UK students to experience China.

The Lord Mayor's Appeal would like to thank our sponsors Bank of China, China Merchants Bank London Branch, ICBC (London) plc, Agricultural Bank of China London Branch, CNOOC - Petroleum Europe Limited, China Construction Bank, Industrial, Commercial Bank China and Labait Professionals Limited. Plus our supporters China Chamber of Commerce in the UK (CCCUK), China UK Business Development Centre (CUKBDC), Great Britain China Centre (GBCC), City of London Corporation and Institute of Directors.
