City Giving Day supporters share their stories

Taking place on 24 September, City Giving Day will mark its 10th year in style with the biggest event yet!
Topping the number of companies that took part in 2023 with 587 currently registered, City Giving Day 2024 aims to share the charitable efforts of more organisations than ever, not only in London but in cities around the UK.
Before the big day rolls around, we asked previous City Giving Day participants including Sally Yiallouros at EY, Rebecca Howie at Fidelity and Emma Sheron at Gallagher to tell their stories and inspire new businesses to sign up.

Why are you supporting City Giving Day 2024?

Sally Yiallouros at EY: City Giving Day is an incredible platform for us to showcase the ways in which we support our chosen charities and the volunteering organisations we work with.

Rebecca Howie at Fidelity: Fidelity takes part in City Giving Day every year as it is our corporate social responsibility anchor day. Our committee is made up of volunteers across the business with a passion for supporting our communities around London and its suburbs and championing exceptional social responsibility across the company.

This year we will be raising money for our partner charity Haringey Play Association, as they look to raise emergency funds to buy the building on their flagship adventure playground site in Tottenham.

For lots of the children growing up in this underprivileged area, it provides a safe space where they can just be kids, learn to take risks, learn new skills, make friends, and simply play.

Emma Sheron at Gallagher: This year we’ll be supporting Macmillan Cancer Support and other localised cancer hospices and causes including Target Ovarian Cancer, the Children’s Book Project and The Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

Supporting the communities in which we live and work plays a key role for everyone at Gallagher. City Giving Day is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our volunteering achievements and charity support and encourage others not only in the City of London but across our UK locations to get involved.

Tell us what you’ve got planned?

Sally Yiallouros at EY: This year our focus is on encouraging participation in our many volunteering initiatives, for example with around 300 of our colleagues planned to head out with Cleanup UK to tidy up local green spaces. This year is especially important to us as it’s the EY Foundation’s tenth anniversary.

Rebecca Howie at Fidelity: This year, Fidelity is organising a Pub Quiz & Raffle to raise money for Haringey Play Association. Teams of 6 will compete for a coveted prize of best in the business.

Emma Sheron at Gallagher: On the day, members of our London Charity Committee will welcome guests from the Lord Mayors Appeal, including our very own chairwoman, Dame Susan Langley DBE to celebrate our Gallagher Gives Back programme.

The bakers amongst us will be selling lots of lovely treats to raise funds for Target Ovarian Cancer and other localised cancer support wards. Our colleagues will also be getting out and about, volunteering for numerous good causes.

Why should other businesses get involved?

Sally Yiallouros at EY: We’d encourage businesses across the city and beyond to get involved in this day. Whether it’s to amplify the great work you already do within the community, to engage colleagues or to simply have fun – it’s a really rewarding day!

Rebecca Howie at Fidelity: The impact that fundraising events coordinated for City Giving Day can have for smaller grassroots organisations is immeasurable. There are many communities around London that need support from the City, and City Giving Day is a fantastic opportunity to have fun while making a difference.

Emma Sheron at Gallagher: City Giving Day is a unique event which unites businesses in the City and beyond. It is brilliant to see so many businesses getting involved in City Giving Day as it gives us a chance to collectively celebrate our local communities and the fantastic services charities and other good causes deliver on a day-to-day basis.
