Lord Mayor Hosts City Giving Day Thank You Reception at Mansion House
The Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman Nicholas Lyons hosted 100 guests at the annual City Giving Day Thank You Reception at Mansion House on 31 October. Made up of City businesses that took part in this year’s City Giving Day, the event organised by The Lord Mayor’s Appeal and sponsored by Cheapside Business Alliance was a chance to show appreciation to those that united in September to celebrate and promote the positive impact of philanthropy in The City.
The main aim of the evening was to heap praise upon those that took part in City Giving Day 2023, with a certificate giving ceremony for the year’s big achievers in a range of categories. These included ‘High Powered Energy’ winners Blue Orchid Hospitality for their Guinness World Record attempt for longest game of padel and runner-up Bank of China for their town hall event; ‘Most Innovative Event’ with winner The Worshipful Company of Pewterers and their pressing of special City Giving Day pewter coins and highly commended: Standard Chartered Bank who invited colleagues to record career insights and top tips for young people about to start their careers.
Other accolades on the night included ‘Most Visible’ City Giving Day event won by Barclays who held City Giving Day events in 14 branches across London and runner up Lloyds Banking Group for their annual branch relay. Other prizes included ‘Best Community Engagement’ claimed by The Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters who encouraged individuals and businesses to knit squares in the TLMA colours to be made into blankets to be given to deserving causes and The Worshipful Company of Chartered Surveyors who hosted an all-day event at Browns Old Jewry.
The final prizes were ‘Best Collaboration’ won by Square Mile Farms and Forum St Pauls for their multi-site harvest event and runner up Music in Offices for hosting a Big City Sing teaming up with City choirs and City workers to put on a performance in Guildhall Yard on the big day; and ‘Go Red’ winners BIE Executive who got their whole office to wear red t-shirts on the big day.
City Giving Day is an annual event hosted by The Lord Mayor’s Appeal uniting the City to celebrate and promote the positive impact of philanthropy. Taking place every September, it gives companies the chance to showcase their charitable and community work – collectively sharing their community outreach via the City Giving Day webpage and social media. Whether City businesses support The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, or their own chosen charities – it gives companies a platform to tell their fundraising and volunteering stories and to collaborate with other businesses within the City community.
